Abstract

The Malaysian Physical Fitness Test (UKJM) was developed to assess the physical fitness of prospective Physical Education teachers and is regarded as a high-stakes test because the results determine candidates’ professional eligibility. However, the UKJM has not yet undergone formal processes of validity, reliability, and safety certification. This study employed a qualitative research design through document analysis and semi-structured interviews involving subject-matter experts and prospective Physical Education teachers, with data analyzed thematically using ATLAS.ti software. The findings revealed issues of inconsistent standards, weaknesses in safety protocols, and the absence of progression and regression principles in the UKJM manual. These results highlight the need for improvements to ensure that the UKJM is validated, reliable, and safe to be used as a physical fitness assessment instrument in the national education system.
